The Human Resources, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and management of Nat Hab’s human resource strategy in support of the overall strategic direction of the company. This specifically pertains to the areas of talent acquisition, talent management and retention, performance management, and DE&I strategy that ensures our Nat Hab team members around the globe share a strong sense of belonging in an inclusive environment while adhering to our Core Ideologies. This is a new role and will include the creation of a roadmap for future programs and practices and executing these plans as Nat Hab continues to grow and scale. The top priority of this new role will be focusing on diversifying our staff through hiring. The Human Resources, Diversity Equity & Inclusion Manager will report directly to the CFO/COO. They will work collaboratively across all areas of the organization to educate, engage and create momentum for DE&I programming that drives positive business outcomes, both at Nat Hab and across the adventure travel industry.

This is a full-time hybrid-office position based in Louisville, CO. The successful applicant must perform the following duties capably in two core areas. Additional responsibilities may be added or assigned at any time.

Human Resources:

  • Serve as the HR professional on the team that consults with management and employees on the human resources programs and practices.
  • Liaise with Nat Hab’s parent company (Lindblad) HR team to ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; create and maintain policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
  • Lead and administer the performance management process across the organization and manage continuous improvement in the overall strategy and systems.
  • Manage and maintain all HR processes, including design and updates to all systems, reporting and data analytics, and maintaining a partnership with our vendor to optimize how employees interact with our system. Previous HRIS experience desired.
  • Manage, evaluate and administer our benefits programs and offerings, leaves of absences, and workers’ compensation policies as they interact with benefits programs and offerings provided by Lindblad.
  • Provide oversight and hands-on support in the areas of on-boarding, off-boarding, benefits as needed, wellness programs, HRIS and performance management administration.
  • Manage employee relation issues with guidance from the Lindblad HR team.
  • Manage and update the Employee Handbook on an ongoing basis as well as develop, implement and communicate policy changes.

Diversity Equity & Inclusion:

  • Drive the diversification of Nat Hab and influence the diversification of the adventure travel industry as a whole through successful design, implementation and management of a global DE&I strategy and associated action plans.
  • Provide expertise to help teams build inclusive and respectful cultures, leveraging the diversity in their teams to drive creativity, innovation, productivity, excellent customer service and highly engaging work environments.
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders across the organization to ensure active executive-level sponsorship for DE&I programming.
  • Develop a learning path that drives our inclusive culture and ensure that DE&I strategies are integrated into all the company’s leadership.
  • Design, develop and integrate key DE&I solutions into HR recruitment processes as we seek to attract a diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
  • Develop and maintain organizational metrics, provide appropriate updates on progress, recommend actions to support the achievement of goals, and assess the overall effectiveness of DE&I initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong external network of peer DE&I leaders to exchange best practices, understand trends from the external environment, and incorporate these learnings into our own DE&I strategy.
  • Lead change towards improving Black and underrepresented minority ethnic talent.
  • Develop and support HR and talent teams with knowledge, engagement and leadership.
  • Drive the development, retention and promotion of the firm’s diverse talent through employer brand, fostering an inclusive culture and sponsorship of appropriate development programs.
  • Manage key internal and external relationships to ensure the firm’s DE&I strategy is being championed.
  • Manage and deliver appropriate reporting and data to support initiatives.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a related field is preferred. PHR or SPHR certification is highly desirable. Hands-on leadership is a must.

Communication Skills

This person must possess the ability to effectively communicate in English – both in writing and orally – with a professional demeanor.

 Other Skills/Abilities

  • 5-7+ years’ experience managing the HR and talent acquisition function for a small, high-growth organization (50-250 staff) or steady progression in multi-HR disciplines.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of inclusion and diversity principles along with previous experience in the creation and implementation of DE&I programs within a high-growth organization.
  • Experience developing strategies and executing initiatives that drive measurable results within the context of the organization’s talent and business strategy.
  • Advanced relationship-management skills, with an ability to influence, lead, engage and build consensus across various levels of leadership.
  • Strong global mindset and cultural awareness to understand various international cultures, and knowledge of global diversity.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences, from leadership to the entire organization.
  • Ability to lead and manage change in a fast-paced, dynamic and high-growth organization
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize and efficiently manage multiple tasks, consistently meeting scheduled deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, maturity and enthusiasm, as well as an ability to have fun and not take yourself too seriously.
  • Able to adapt to changing and flexible responsibilities in a high-paced and fast-changing environment.
  • Able to work individually and as part of a team. Communication is key!
  • Interpersonal skills that enable working cooperatively with all types of people: staff, guides, clients and vendors.
  • Expert HRIS experience and hands-on experience with the system’s design, reporting, workflow and transactional programs. Experience with SuccessFactors is highly desirable.
  • Experience with coordination of a performance management process and software system.
  • Demonstrated competencies including customer service, collaboration, and the ability to influence a course of action on critical, complex or sensitive information. Excellent presentation, facilitation, and listening skills are a must.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and various states’ employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team to build effective internal and external relationships.
  • Must be able to act ethically and maintain highly confidential, sensitive and proprietary information.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and process improvement focus. A true role model when it comes to self-improvement and change.
  • Proficient/strong in MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook. Experience with an HRIS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of international HR and best practices.
  • Ability and willingness to work across time zones.
  • Some travel may be required.

Compensation commensurate with experience: Base salary range of $80,000-$100,000 USD, plus annual bonus.

This position comes with Paid Time Off and paid holidays. Benefits include site inspection on Nat Hab trips and pro deals on outdoor clothing. Eligibility for medical insurance, participation in 401(k) with company match and parental leave are available after a predetermined period of time.
